Coach Shaun

Founder & Director

Founder and Director, Coach Shaun Shell brings over 20 years of coaching experience to The Be Gr8 Basketball Academy. Deeply inspired by his grandfather, a basketball coach and staple figure in his community, and his father who forged his own path as a young athlete turned coach, the Shell family's longstanding history of coaching has impacted hundreds of young athletes.

Coach Shaun grew up playing local recreational league athletics and club team sports in basketball, baseball and soccer, and has a great appreciation for all levels of youth sports. At 17, he began as a volunteer coach at the YMCA, and by 21 Coach Shaun took an 8th grade AAU team, the Minnesota Magic, to 2nd place in Nationals while also volunteering as a camp counselor to camps hosted by the University of Missouri, Kansas University and several other organizations. 

From St. Louis, Missouri to college in Minnesota, and finally landing in Los Angeles, Coach Shaun has helped develop several programs in the LA area, most recently serving as an assistant coach for NBA Hall of Famer Paul Pierce's travel team The Truth.

After years of playing experience and coaching under some of the best youth basketball minds in the business, Coach Shaun aims to give back to the South Bay community where his own children are growing up, with Be Gr8 Basketball Academy. In his own words, "I like to think that all of my life experiences have led me to this point where I can give back by living out my passion for basketball every day and hopefully inspire youth to Be Gr8 along the way."
